The Prime Minister says improvements are being made to the Canada Emergency Wage subsidy where employers can get funds to top up employee wages.
The subsidy allows businesses to keep people on the payroll. A new calculator is on the CRA website so businesses can determine the amount they can expect to claim through the wag subsidy. Employers will be able to apply as of April 27th.
The subsidy would provide up to $825 a week for employee wages.
Trudeau says a $350 million Emergency Community Support program is being set up for charities and non-profit organizations hit financially by the Coronavirus. He says a portion of these funds will go directly to smaller, independent, front-line organizations. The rest will flow through national organizations.
The PM was asked if new gun control legislation will be introduced in the restricted version of parliament after this weekend’s shootings in Nova Scotia that left 19 dead, including the gunman.
The Prime Minister says they made strong commitments to move forward on the issue. He says they were on the verge of bringing it in, before parliament was suspended, and they are now looking at the right way and the right moment to bring it forward.
Trudeau also again extended condolences to the families of the victims of the shootings.
