This is National Volunteers Week and Lieutenant Governor Russ Mirasty has announced the names of the 2019 recipients of the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal. 12 people are being honoured; four of them are from Saskatoon. A ceremony to honour the recipients will take place when public gatherings resume. Mirasty says the medal recognizes the extraordinary citizens who support our communities and the province. This is the 25th anniversary of the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal. Since its inception, it has been awarded to 217 people. Statistic Canada says this province has the highest rate of volunteers in the country.
