Canada Post says the parcel volumes their postal workers are dealing with are comparable only to Christmas.
The national postal service says with many Canadians isolating at home and shopping more on line, Canada Post is processing and delivery parcels at levels only experienced during the busiest weeks of the Christmas season so they are advising customers to expect delays.
Canada Post points to heavy incoming parcel volumes combined with safety measures being implemented due to the COVID-19 pandemic which means it is taking longer to process parcels. Some of the challenges include physical distancing in facilities that were never designed to keep people two metres apart.
On Monday April 20th, Canada Post delivered more than 1.8 million parcels to Canadians. That is similar tot he biggest delivery days Canada Post sees during the Christmas season. You can continue to track your parcels on line.
Some of the safety protocols that have been implemented include a knock, drop and go approach to delivery parcels at the door. Remaining parcels picked up at the post office and requiring ID will not be returned-to-sender until further notice. Customers feeling ill or self-isolating are asked to delay their visit to the post office. Canada Post has suspended their normal 15 day hold period.
