Concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic has claimed another summertime staple event in Saskatoon.
Organizers of the I-C-R Charity Golf Classic have cancelled the 18th annual tournament, set for July 21-22 at the Saskatoon Golf and Country Club. The tournament committee pointed to the unknown with regards to the novel coronavirus, as well as many restrictions in place regarding group gatherings and the challenges for the event’s sponsors and supporters as the reasons for not holding the I-C-R Charity Classic this year. The event brings together 144 golfers plus dedicated scorekeepers on the golf course alone. The I-C-R Charity Classic has raised over $940,000 for local charities over the previous 17 years and were hopeful of breaking the one million-dollar mark this year. Following is the news release from the I-C-R Charity Classic…
Participants, Sponsors, Volunteers and all Supporters of the ICR Charity Golf Classic, The past several weeks have challenged everyone in so many ways with the outbreak of COVID 19. With the unknown that lies ahead, the many restrictions that are in place and questions around group gatherings as well as the challenges that many of our sponsors and supporters may face in the coming months, it is with regret that we have decided to cancel the 2020 tournament. While we appreciate the outpouring of support and generosity for the various local charities over the years, at this time we know that the health and safety of everyone must come first so that we can all play 18 once again and shake hands. We look forward to seeing everyone next year. Stay safe and stay healthy. John Kachur Tournament Committee Chair
