Many people are struggling through during the economic realities of COVID-19 and physical distancing measures, but one of Saskatoon’s neighbourhoods is taking action to help those in need.
The Brevoort Park Community Association realizes even with other services out there, some are struggling to afford or have access to the basic food staples. That’s where the BPCA Pantry comes in. It’s neighbours helping neighbours.
Spokesperson Shelly Brimble, says some people are falling through the cracks. For example, for some families, language may be a barrier and they don’t know how to access funding. As well, she understands that a lot of families live paycheck to paycheck, so any interruption in those funds can be very disruptive.
The BPCA decided that food is a basic need, so it would be the best way to help. The Community Association is asking its residents to donate non-perishable food items or cash. Anything over $20 will get you a tax receipt.
Brimble adds that for those that could use some help, they will get a delivery right to their doorstep so they won’t have to worry about how to pick up their hamper.
