The Saskatchewan Union of Nurses is concerned with the provincial government’s announcement that plans are in the works for re-opening the economy.
SUN President Tracy Zambory says even just talking about a return to normalcy could lead to people relaxing their vigilance in physical distancing, staying home and practicing preventative hygiene. She believes it’s too soon, and it puts nurses and other health care workers in a precarious position as they try to keep everyone safe. SUN’s President urges the government for caution, saying it’s not time to loosen the reigns yet just because we have had a few days of good numbers. China is now fighting flare ups, so Zambory suggests the government should take heed of what is happening elsewhere before making that final decision on gradually opening up the economy again.
On a more positive note, Zambory says SUN members and all health care workers are very touched by the public support with offers of help and the outpouring of kindness and love on social media. She has heard from many members that it has boosted their morale in this challenging situation and they are so touched that the public appreciates what they are doing.
