Unifor is trying to pressure the Co-op Oil refinery in Regina to come to a settlement by encouraging the federal government to change Bill C-14. The change the union wants would prevent employers using replacement workers to apply for the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy. Unifor National President Jerry Dias says, companies that use these workers to prolong labour disputes should not benefit from the scare emergency funds. Dias says Federated Co-op has been enabled to refuse to compromise on an agreement by the employment of these workers and, he says, having them subsidized by the federal government will further tip the balance in favour of the company.
