Youth Science Canada has been thinking about doing an online science fair for awhile, but the thought was it would happen in a couple of years, and then COVID-19 happened.
Executive Director Reni Barlow estimates about 20 to 25-thousand Grades 7 to 12 students worked hard on their projects for weeks and months and then their regional fairs and the national fair to be held in Edmonton were cancelled.
That’s why Youth Science Canada decided to rush their virtual project and present the YSC Online STEM Fair to showcase science, technology, engineering and math projects from Canadian Youth.
It’s hoped the website will be ready by early May for students to begin the process of entering and uploading their work, including a 60 second video explaining their project.
It will be open to the public on May 19th.
Engineering-dot-com is helping YSC to set up the website.
The fair will even have virtual ribbon awards at the end of May.
