Laser Pointed at Police Plane
The Saskatoon Air Support Unit describes being targeted with a green laser last night as “scary and sad”. In a tweet from members they indicate that the green laser is capable of damaging eyesight instantly. The incident happened shortly after 11 p.m. on Sunday night. Officers say they identified the home where the laser was coming from in the 500 block of Avenue H south.
A 30 year old Saskatoon man is charged with mischief and Breach of undertaking. The Tactical Flight Officer and the Saskatoon Police Service Pilot were not injured. The Saskatoon Police Service reiterated that pointing a laser at a plane is dangerous and can cause serious injury.
Drug Trafficking Charges After Trying to Give Police the Slip
Saskatoon Police say they attempted a traffic stop around 1:30 in the morning on Saturday after observing activity consistent with drug trafficking near 11th street West and Avenue Q South. When the vehicle refused to stop, the Air Support Unit was able to track it going west out of the city. The vehicle was abandoned in a field but not before ASU watched the driver allegedly throw numerous items out the window. The items were retrieved, the suspect, who fled on foot, was tracked down by RCMP and a 32 year old man is facing drug trafficking and evade police charges.
Evade Police All the Way Out to Blaine Lake
Saskatoon Police say they located a stolen vehicle around 11:30 Friday night that had been reported stolen about an hour earlier. Officers tried to pull it over but the vehicle sped off. The Air Support Unit followed the vehicle as it travelled at what police describe as high speeds towards Blaine Lake. The vehicle was disabled when stop sticks were thrown out south of Blaine Lake and a suspect who fled into the bush, was taken into custody a short time later by RCMP. A 42 year old man is charged with Possession of Stolen Property under $5,000, Evade Police, Fail to Stop, Dangerous Driving and Breach of Conditions.
Regina Man Found Slumped Over in a Vehicle Facing Charges
Regina Police say they were called around 10 on Sunday morning after getting a report of a man slumped over in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle with a knife on the passenger seat. Officers responded to the 18-hundred block of Victoria Avenue and say they were able to remove the man from the vehicle and secure the weapon. Police also seized a quantity of drugs and drug paraphernalia. 35 year old Curtis Michael Stone of Regina has been charged with Possession of a Weapons, Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime and Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking.
Cab Stolen in Regina
Regina Police say a cabbie had his vehicle stolen on the weekend. It happened shortly before 2 in the morning on Sunday when the cab driver picked up a fare in the 14 -hundred block of Angus Street and shortly after that the customer stole the vehicle. Police spotted the cab and managed to deploy a spike belt near the Cornwall Centre but the vehicle didn’t come to a stop until Dewdney and Albert Street. Police say the driver gave them a false name plus they seized a knife, a small bag of meth and the suspect was a prohibted driver. 21 year old Christian Michael Hagel of Regina is facing a variety of drug, weapon and theft charges.
