Manitoba RCMP say their arrest of a Calgary man outside Brandon on Sunday is part of one of the largest seizures of illegal tobacco from a traffic stop in Canada.
Shortly before 11:30 in the morning, officers pulled a vehicle over, chatted with the driver, inspected the vehicle and allegedly uncovered 350 cases of illegal tobacco containing 3,500,000 cigarettes.
The 36 year old Alberta man has been charged with trafficking contraband tobacco under the Criminal Code of Canada, the Tax Administration and Miscellaneous Taxes Act and under the Excise Act. If convicted the RCMP says the driver could face a mandatory triple tax penalty of over $3 million dollars.
