A bystander suffered serious injuries after being shot Wednesday morning in Blackfalds, Alberta.
RCMP were called to a firearms complaint and when they arrived, shots were fired towards RCMP vehicles which is when a woman was hit.
RCMP say a man believed involved in the shooting fled in a vehicle and police threw down a stud belt as the vehicle headed north on the QEII highway. The vehicle then crossed the median and travelled north in the southbound lane where it finally came to a stop. A confrontation with officers occurred and a 27 year old man died.
An RCMP officer also suffered serious, non-life threatening injuries. The incident is under investigation by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team.
