The City of Saskatoon says it is proceeding with several key construction projects this summer. With an expected investment of over $61 million for road rehabilitation and maintenance for Saskatoon’s streets, bridges and sidewalks. Terry Schmidt, General Manager of Transportation and Construction for the City of Saskatoon says after re-evaluating all planned projects for the year and making adjustments to typical safety procedures to keep people safe during the pandemic, it was determined they would move forward with a majority of planned projects.
Schmidt says about 4,611 meters of new water main will be installed in areas where the current infrastructure is in immediate need of replacement. He says high traffic ares that will be effected will be 8th Street, where water mains will be replaced under the east-bound lanes between Sommerfeld Avenue and Arlington Avenue. Water main replacements are also planned on sections of Clarence Avenue between College Drive and 8th Street. In Silverspring, on Garvie road, a new primary water mane will be installed that will service the Evergreen and Aspen Ridge neighbourhoods.
