Compared to other provinces in these challenging times of dealing with COVID-19, the Saskatchewan real estate market has been relatively resilient to date.
That’s according to the Saskatchewan Realtors Association while reporting that new listings across the province were down by 48 per cent from April of last year to this year and sales were down by 45 per cent.
In comparison, when the SARS pandemic hit Ontario in 2003, some markets in the area fell up to 72 per cent.
SRA CEO Jason Yochim says evidence from prior pandemics suggest sales will bounce back fairly quickly once physical distancing measures are relaxed.
There were 213 homes sold in Saskatoon in April, which is almost a 44 per cent drop and when you include the surrounding area, sales were down 45 per cent.
The median home price is down from $332-thousand in April of 2019 to $320-thousand last month.
In Regina, sales are down by just over 50 per cent and 51 per cent in the overall region. Median home prices actually increased by 1.7 per cent to almost $285-thousand.
