Instead of making history this year by celebrating their 135th anniversary, the Ex is being cancelled for the first time in its history.
The Saskatoon Ex started before Saskatoon was a city in 1886 in an effort to show that what was then a Temperance Colony was economically viable enough to become a city.
In the new landscape that is COVID-19, Prairieland Park made the decision to cancel the Saskatoon Ex which was scheduled for August 4th to 9th. The Saskatoon Ex employs nearly 600 people, attracts 215 thousand people annually and brings in nearly 200 artists and attractions.
Another long established, beloved event in Saskatoon, has to pull the pin this year. The Western Development Museum says it is with a heavy heart that they are cancelling Pion-Era in Saskatoon, Those were the Days in North Battlefor and the Threshermen’s Show and Seniors’ Festival in Yorkton.
As well, all in-Museum summer camps are being cancelled. They felt the decision was in the best interest of staff, volunteers and the public, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
They are working on a virtual summer camp and details are pending. The Western Development Museum is part of the Phase 4 of the Re-Open Saskatchewan plan but there are no dates assigned or rules issued as yet, around Phase 4.
