Update: A fire investigator continues to search for the cause of a fire that occurred in the 2700 block of Eastview Tuesday evening. For now it is being classified as undetermined and the fire investigator estimates damage at $100,000. Just after eight o’clock last night, multiple 9-1-1 calls came in about a house fire on the 27 hundred block of Eastview. Fire crews were greeted by thick black smoke. The one person inside was already out of the building and firefighters shut down the gas supply line and located the fire in the basement. The house was ventilated of smoke and carbon monoxide. No one was hurt.
There was a small grass fire at four in the afternoon in the area of the Paradise Beach parking lot. It took about 25 minutes to bring the fire under control. No buildings were damaged and no one was hurt. The department won’t be investigating the cause because it’s outside their jurisdiction.
Just before five o’clock Tuesday afternoon, the Fire Department was told of a person in distress in the river. When crews arrived they found the male near the shore’s edge and describe him as uncooperative and even threatening. He was in an area that was difficult to access. Water rescue units were sent out and, working from the water and from land, they were able to get the person ashore around 5:30. He was transferred to Saskatoon Police.
