A Canadian Forces Snowbirds aircraft has crashed in Kamloops, British Columbia. On Twitter the Royal Canadian Air Force confirmed a crash had taken place.
“The #RCAF has been made aware that a Canadian Forces Snowbirds aircraft crashed in the vicinity of Kamloops, BC. Our priority at this time is determining the status of our personnel and supporting emergency personnel. When appropriate, more information will be made available.”
A video of the crash appears to show ejection from the plane before it crashes but status of those involved is unknown.
The British Columbia Health Minister indicated that one person had been taken to hospital.
As of yesterday, flypasts had been cancelled in the Okanagan due to the weather. The Snowbirds, on a cross-Canada tour called Operation Inspiration to raise spirits during the COVID-19 pandemic, were planning to head to Comox and the post on their Facebook profile around 11:30 Sunday morning indicated that transit through the mountain passes had very low cloud cover.
“Which is unsafe for flying 9 jets. We are going to preposition to Comox to start working our way East”.
Video of the Snowbird which crashed was taken by Victor Mario Kaisar and posted on Twitter. You can see it here.
