Just over half of the people in Canada who contracted COVID-19 have recovered.
Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer, Dr. Theresa Tam, says there have been 78,499 cases, an increase of 11,093 cases of the virus since Monday and 39,498 recoveries in total.
There have been 52 more deaths across the country for a total of 5,857.
The Canada/U.S. border will remain closed to non-essential travel for at least another month, which Dr. Tam says is necessary so we can track how things go first as provinces begin to open up restrictions.
She explains we need to see that we can still suppress the virus and clamp down on any new outbreaks.
The massive reduction of international travelers is one of the ways Canada has been able to reduce transmission of the virus.
Tam says the mandatory quarantine for anyone coming in to the country, other than for delivery of goods, has a mandatory 14-day quarantine.
Canada will be watching what is happening in the States, and Tam is certain the same thing will be happening in the U.S.
