A 55-year-old Regina man, who was stopped and found to be driving while impaired and having his eight-year-old grandson as a passenger in the vehicle, faces four different charges when he appears in Provincial Court in Swift Current in September.
The R-C-M-P’s Roving Traffic Unit stopped an eastbound vehicle at around 11:30 a.m. on May 14 as it was coming into Swift Current. The man said he did not have a driver’s license and handed over a Saskatchewan photo I-D card to officers. A check with S-G-I showed the man had his driver’s license expire in 2005. He failed a breathalyzer test at the scene, providing a sample that was one-and-a-half times over the legal limit. Besides being charged with impaired operation of a vehicle, the man was also cited for operating a vehicle with over 80 milligrams of alcohol in his system, driving without a valid driver’s license and consuming beverage alcohol in a motor vehicle. His name isn’t being released to protect the identity of the eight-year-old child who was subsequently picked up by his mother a few hours later.
