COVID-19 has hit every province hard, but our Trade Minister says Saskatchewan seems to be doing alright when it comes to weathering the economic storm. Jeremy Harrison say we have the second lowest unemployment rate in the country, behind Prince Edward Island. And, we’ve seen the smallest number of hours-worked-decline of any jurisdiction in the country.
Harrison says, our export numbers – a huge part of our economy – have seen growth over the last month, and significant growth in the first quarter over the same period last year.
He says economic indicators they have seen since the pandemic started show Saskatchewan has come out of this better than all of the other provinces
Harrison says the province has found a way to balance the impact of COVID-19 when it comes to public safety and weathering the economic storm the province has had to deal with.
He says the mission is to continue navigating that path which is something he is confident can be done.
