An entrepreneurial support group says women-led businesses tend to be smaller, but they have a big impact on the province’s economy.
A report released this week by Women Entrepreneurship in Saskatchewan states that last year, women-led businesses contributed $23.1-billion to the province’s GDP and 192,000 people were employed in women-led businesses in Saskatchewan.
WESK CEO, Prabha Mitchell considers these businesses to be a pivotal segment that will help to stimulate economic recovery.
However, the report points out that across all size categories, the number of men-led businesses is greater and the per centage rises as the business size increases.
The per centage of women-led businesses varies greatly by community.
For instance, from a list of 22 Saskatchewan towns and cities, Carlyle has the lowest number at 13 per cent and La Ronge has the highest at 60 per cent.
In Saskatoon, 34 per cent of the businesses as women-led and in Regina, 35 per cent.
The average is 34 per cent.
