A joint operation by the drug units of the Saskatoon and Regina Police Services has resulted in the arrest of five people on drug trafficking charges and the seizure of large quantities of methamphetamine. The investigations began early this year and concluded this past week.
The Saskatoon Police Service drug unit arrested a 21-year-old man from Burnaby, B.C. and a 21-year-old woman from Port Coquitlam, B.C. on Wednesday, charging both with trafficking methamphetamine, possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine and possession of proceeds of crime under five-thousand dollars. The man was observed traveling back and forth from Regina and finally arrested during a traffic stop in Saskatoon, at which time police seized 4,951 grams of methamphetamine, $1,830.00 in cash, two smart phones and a Canadian passport.
Meanwhile on Thursday, the Regina Police Service drug unit arrested three males – 20-year-old Nuno-Miguel DeSousa of Burnaby, 41-year-old Shahid Aziz of Regina and 43-year-old Christopher Charles Lafonte of Regina, after the trio were found to be in possession of about 500 grams of fentanyl, 300 grams of cocaine, 4500 grams of methamphetamine, 200 grams of Xanax and $9,000.00 in Canadian currency. Both Aziz and Lafonte faced three separate charges when they appeared in Regina Provincial Court Friday while DeSousa faced a total of five charges.
