The Annual Giving Coordinator for the Prairies Region of the Canadian Cancer Society, says cancer doesn’t go away during COVID-19. Instead those in treatment are more vulnerable because of underlying health issues so those people need more support and this year donation dollars will fall far short of what the CCS normally can rely on.
Aurora Marinari says Relay for Life brings in 23 million dollars annually so they know they won’t see a number that high this year plus they had to but the brakes on daffodil sales and door to door canvassing.
In the age of COVID-19, Relay at Home will be one night, for all Canadians to be together at the same time, across the country, on June 13th. In 2019 Saskatoon’s Relay for Life had 194 participants and the budget for 2020 was 65,000 dollars. Marinari says while they would like to reach that goal, they realize many people are in very trying circumstances.
To sign up just go to RelayforLife.ca and you will have the option by signing up under the Saskatoon community page or you you can sign up under the Relay at Home page. Closer to June 13th when Relay takes place you will be given information on how to access the live event which is streaming on Facebook and youtube.
