The Prime Minister, in his daily COVID-19 briefing, announced Monday that they are working on a national paid sick leave program. The suggestion is 10 days a year. This work is being done in conjunction with the provinces and Justin Trudeau says it has been part of the discussions since one of the first calls with premiers and territorial leaders at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. They are still establishing who would pay for it and how it will work but it is intended for anyone feeling ill displaying symptoms that could be COVID-19.
The Prime Minister also announced Monday that Saskatchewan landlords can apply tomorrow for the Canada Emergency Commercial Rent Assistance.
However, the landlord has to sign up for the program in order for tenants, the small business owner, to apply. Over the course of the program, property owners will reduce rent by at least 75 per cent for the months of April and May (retroactive), and June, for their small business tenants. CECRA will cover 50 per cent of the rent, with the tenant paying up to 25 per cent and the property owner forgiving at least 25 per cent.
