The Resident Doctors of Saskatchewan and Student Medical Society of Saskatchewan are teaming up to raise money for Saskatchewan food banks .
The Feeding Saskatchewan campaign is looking to raise $35,000 in order to feed all food bank users in the province for an entire week. SMSS President Tayyaba Bhati says with food bank demand doubling in the province the two student groups decided to come together to help. Bhati says students learn in school how to help people from a medical perspective but they are also taught about the different social determinants of health that effects people and food security is a huge one.
Recently the SMSS was able to pull together $50,000 to help people struggling with the pandemic in the La Loche area and Bhati hopes to see that kind of support for this campaign as well. Donations will be accepted until June 22nd and can be found on the Student Medical Society of Saskatchewan’s Facebook or Instagram pages.
