Saskatchewan’s minimum wage rises to $11.45 per hour on October 1st. Right now it’s $11.32. The wage is calculated using an indexation formula which the government says helps ensure that all people benefit from the economic prosperity in the province. The formula gives equal weight to changes in the Consumer Price Index and the Average Hourly Wage in Saskatchewan.
Whether looking at current or future effective dates of other provinces, Saskatchewan will still have the second lowest minimum wage in Canada, just ahead of Newfoundland and Labrador’s $11.15. Even Quebec, which rakes in billions of dollars in equalization payments from Saskatchewan and Alberta, has a higher minimum at $13.10.
