Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Environment days Conservation Officers are waiting on the results of a necropsy to try and determine what killed two deer found near Meewasin Valley Trail.
Saskatoon Trail Alliance had posted on their Facebook page that there were two dead deer by south from Diefenbaker Park.
The carcasses have been taken to the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative lab to see if they were killed by a cougar but the Ministry says no other evidence collected indicates that is the case.
The Ministry also says that ever spring, black bears and other predators, like cougars, move around to establish new territory and look for food which is normal behavior. And in Saskatchewan urban areas have been build along natural wildlife corridors which means they can come into conflict with people and property but cougar/human conflicts are rare. The Ministry of Environment notes that cougars are generally shy and wary of humans and typically avoid human populations.
