Something of a twitter war erupted this week after a tweet from the Regina Police Association. On Tuesday, the Association posted, “Do you support the “de-funding” of Police in Regina? If you do, this amazing work by our members will be one of the first to go. Choose wisely.” The reference was to the Cultural Unit. That caused a stir on twitter with people reading that as a threat to cut the outreach unit; one person describing it as fear tactics.
The reaction prompted a four-part response from the Association, not apologizing for the tweet but for the way in which it was perceived. The Association say the intention of the tweet was to, “Demonstrate how our members cherish the relationships we’ve built within our community. We’re fearful that the de-funding of police will ultimately exclude our members from such valuable social programming.”
