Saskatoon Public Libraries will get a bit closer to normalcy on Monday, when pick-up services are set to begin.
All nine of SPL’s locations will be able to arrange holds for pick-up of physical library materials.
Pick-ups will be made by appointment and SPL locations will be open from 10am – 6pm, Monday to Saturday. Holds can be placed online, by phone or through the library app, notifications will be sent, when holds are ready.
Return slots will also be re-opened on Monday for anyone still holding onto library materials since libraries closed in mid-March. SPL does mention there will be no late fees for the foreseeable future and encourage people to hold onto items for a while longer if possible, with an estimated 110-thousand materials listed as pending, library staff do not want to be overwhelmed the first few days of re-opening.
Libraries will not be permitted to re-opening buildings to the general public until phase 4 of the Saskatchewan Re-open plan, which currently has no set date determined.
Other changes the SPL will be including are the loan period is increasing to 28 days for all items, and the number of items available for checkout is decreasing to 50 items per card.
SPL says library materials cannot be sanitized and all returned items are quarantined for 72 hours before being checked in. Patrons are encouraged to quarantine materials for an additional 72 hours before bringing them into their homes. It is recommended that patrons who are immune-compromised or otherwise susceptible to COVID-19 should be particularly cautious when borrowing items from the library.
