At 5:15 pm Sunday Humboldt Mayor Rob Muench called a Local State of Emergency for the City of Humboldt due to a high amount of rainfall within a short period of time. Some estimates indicate 88 millimetres of rain fell, or 3.5 inches. There was concern the storm water would infiltrate and overwhelm the sanitary sewer system.
The Mayor was urging residents to make sure their sump pumps were functioning properly and that the discharge was being directed outside, not into the sanitary sewer system.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Natalie Hasell says the storm started in Regina and headed north arriving in Humboldt around 3 p.m. She says they had one are farmer indicate they received 25 millimetres of rain in 10 minutes.
About 60 kilometres southeast of Prince Albert in Weldon there was ping pong sized hail while Brancepeth received quarter sized hail. And Natalie Hasell says by the time the storm reached Prince Albert it was a “well-organized storm” which she further defines as a super-cell. Hasell indicates that at their twitter account they have received information there were rail cars derailed overnight at Prince Albert. She can’t rule out a tornado but does point out that a third of the damage on the prairies from summer storms comes from strong straight-line winds.

Environment Canada is requesting that anyone with information about yesterday’s storm system including hail and damage reports, rainfall amounts or pictures of the storm, contact them at their Twitter account #SKstorm, you can call 1-800-239-0484 or email skstorm@canada.ca.
