The provincial government has introduced amendments to a bill which it says better protects the rights of legal firearm and handgun owners in Saskatchewan, by limiting the ability to ban firearm and handgun ownership through new municipal bylaws. That’s according to the provincial government.
The federal government has indicated it plans to pass legislation which would delegate to municipalities the ability to ban firearms. Government Relations Minister Lori Carr says clear and consistent firearms ownership rules are needed so there isn’t a patchwork of regulations across the province. Carr says the province would prefer to encourage education and safety, while taking a tough stance on criminals, rather than restricting legitimate firearms ownership.
