Justin Trudeau is speaking out about a claim from the Bloc Quebecois that he’s governing like a king during the pandemic. During his COVID-19 update, the Prime Minister knows he’s in a minority position, but also says three parties in Parliament voted in favour of the current way of doing things. And Trudeau says a financial update will be presented in Parliament July 8th.
When asked if this meant big spending announcements have been made, and if not, how accurate will it be, the Prime Minister responded by saying he thinks its useful all the initiatives and “all the ways we’ve helped Canadians” are presented in one concrete snapshot in a few weeks.
He also said that if there’s a 2nd wave, and Canadians again fall on hard times, the government will need to do more. COVID-19 cases have surged in several U.S states after they reopened, but Health Minister says whether it would happen in Canada is like comparing apples and oranges.
“For example, in Canada we have a public health care system, which means people can get access to health care free of charge and they have supports such as the newly extended CERB to be able to take time off if they’re ill and isolate properly.”
Work on serology tests for COVID-19 continues in Canada. The Health Minister says partnerships with Blood Services Canada will help that process move forward because it gives access to a large number of blood samples that can be used quickly to begin the initial survey. A serology test is to determine how many people in the country have been infected with COVID-19.
