The Prime Minister continues to be grilled about systemic racism in police services, including the RCMP. During his COVID-19 briefing this morning, Justin Trudeau was asked is he believes the Mounties disproportionately uses force in dealing with Indigenous people.
“I think we’ve seen data that suggests Indigenous people are at greater risk of mistreatment or excessive force used by police services, including the RCMP, across the country.”
He says the issue will be brought up during his next conference call with provincial and territorial leaders, and the commissioner of the RCMP.
Justin Trudeau says a nation-wide app to trace COVID-19 will be rolling out soon, as the country reopens, and the economy starts rolling again. At his briefing in Ottawa, the Prime Minister says it’s voluntary, but will be most effective if as many people as possible use it. Trudeau says at no time will personal information will be collected.
