Internet fraud, crimes involving crystal meth and domestic violence are all crimes that went against the trend during the first 3 months of the pandemic in Saskatoon.
Police Chief Troy Cooper says most of the crime numbers were down, with a 15 per cent reduction in calls for service after the public health orders were introduced.
However, meth use continues to escalate.
There were more meth-involved occurences in May than any other month since the Police Service began tracking the numbers in 2015.
Cooper has cited before that domestic violence rose by 15 per cent from March to June.
He adds that this is not specific to Saskatoon.
It is a trend that has been witnessed globally.
Internet fraud continued to rise during the pandemic, with email scams where you would be asked to click on a world map to see where the novel coronavirus had been found, but when you click on, it would collect your personal information.
Cooper suggests if you don’t know the source of the email, if you don’t recognize the address, don’t click on it.
