The second annual climate resilience report from the provincial government suggests there are positive trends in many of its environmental measures.
In April of last year, the first report classified 15 measures as good and 7 as fair, with some not able to be measured yet. This year, 18 measures are classified as good and 6 as fair, with none in the poor category.
A news release from the government says one of the measures was adding about 700-thousand hectares of protected land in 2019 for a total of 6.4-million hectares. That’s about 10 per cent of Saskatchewan’s land base. Since last year, another measure is having all forest harvest designs take into consideration natural disturbance patterns like wildfire and insects, to maintain the health of forests.
The categories for the measures include natural systems, physical infrastructure, economic sustainability, community preparedness and human well-being.
