There are no patients in intensive care in Saskatchewan with COVID-19, although there are 3 people in hospital, with 1 in Saskatoon and 2 in the south. As of Monday, there are 4 new cases of the virus from the far north and 1 from the Saskatoon area for a total of 751. The 95 active cases includes 2 people who tested positive in Saskatchewan but are actually from elsewhere.
The Saskatoon community outbreak declared on May 27th is now done. Medical Health Officer, Dr. Jasmine Hasselback declared it over on Sunday. The Saskatchewan Health Authority says the outbreak was declared when it was learned during contact tracing of 2 individuals with the virus that there were 2 large family gatherings in early May, contrary to the public health order at the time. The outbreak involved multiple different households. Although the province is gradually re-opening, the Health authority reminds everyone that the virus is still out there, so it’s important to continue to take precautions to protect yourself and those around you.
To date, 305 cases have been from the far north, 186 from the Saskatoon area, 113 from the north, 80 from the Regina area, 53 from the south and 12 from the central region.
Of the 751 cases in the province:
157 cases are travellers;
452 are community contacts (including mass gatherings);
98 have no known exposures; and
44 are under investigation by local public health.
Overall in Saskatchewan:
53 cases are health care workers; however, the source of the infections may not be related to health care in all instances.
109 cases involve people 19 years of age and under, while the remainder are adults.
259 cases are in the 20-39 age range; 237 are in the 40-59 age range; 125 are in the 60-79 age range; and 21 are in the 80-plus range.
51 per cent of the cases are females and 49 per cent are males.
