The Saskatchewan Huskies have made modifications to their in an aim to make it more symmetrical and stand out for future sporting events.
In a press releases sent out Monday Huskies Athletics described the changes.
SASKATOON – A new look for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies was launched on Monday with the unveiling of an updated logo, featuring a fresh take on the same classic Huskie that we all know.
Along with the tweaks to the Huskie Head, a new bold text has been added to the logo to replace the previous script. This serves the dual purpose of loudly and proudly declaring the Huskie name while simultaneously updating the logo to make it symmetrical.
The Heritage ‘S’ has also been given an update making it fuller and more symmetrical as well, while a number of tertiary logos have been retired. For a full list of changes and regulations please view our brand guide.
Endorsed by both USask senior leadership and the Huskie Athletic’s Board of Trustees, the new-look logos along with the brand guide aim to bring a consistent feel to Huskie Athletics.
“The University of Saskatchewan Huskie brand is truly iconic in Saskatchewan, Canada and beyond. Generations of students, alumni, faculty, staff and patrons have been and continue to be proud of the Huskie legacy. The new brand guide will help to ensure that the Huskie legacy will continue to grow and prosper,” said Chair of the Huskie Board of Trustees Jim Hopson, who formerly was the President of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
With how beloved the original Huskie logo is throughout this province and beyond, the decision to make the adjustment was not made lightly nor without extensive work. It was arrived upon after a brand audit from design firm Torch Creative, consultations with Huskie coaches and staff as well as stakeholders across campus and the consumer services department with major work on the project being done from the USask communications department. Finally a survey was conducted that polled USask students, alumni, faculty and staff.
Fellow Board of Trustees member and legendary Huskie men’s hockey head coach Dave King feels as though the new-look logos do a good job of respecting the long and storied tradition of Huskie Athletics.
“I think for both consistency and tradition, the use of this version of the Huskie logo gives us a more unified and recognizable brand,” said King.
Posters and more bearing the new logos are available in store and online at Shop USask, with more merchandise – including clothing – becoming available at a later date.
