After an almost 7 month lockout, Unifor Local 594 has voted in favour of the latest contract from the Federated Co-op’s Refinery Complex in Regina.
The Co-op Refinery Complex says the 730 unionized employees will return to work over the coming weeks.
Vice-President of Refinery Operations, Gil Le Dressay, says, “This labour disruption was a difficult period in our history, but I believe we will emerge from this a stronger team and organization.
He describes the deal as a much-need balance between the company’s appreciation of its employees and the fiscal realities of the refining sector.
The CRC also thanks the local community and truckers for their patience.
A news release from Unifor National says the bargaining committee held firm throughout this protracted and often bitter negotiation process.
National President, Jerry Dias, says Local 594 was able to keep its defined benefit pension plan and the company matched employee savings plan for workers, and wage improvements match the National Pattern.
