Young Canadians in Saskatoon will hold a town hall meeting Tuesday, to voice their concerns on what comes next, after COVID-19.
Areeba Bilal is the Media Lead with Future Majority, a non-partisan group that began in 2019 to promote voter turnout.
She says 19 digital town halls are being held across the country, including in Saskatoon.
Over 113 young people have signed up using the groups instagram account, the meeting will include MLAs Vicki Mowat, Danielle Chartier, MP Brad Redekopp, former MP Sheri Benson and Mayor Charlie Clark.
Bilal says based on national surveys by First Majority, topics will include financial security, universal mental health care, racial justice and climate change.
Bilal explains that a lot of young people feel disenfranchised, despite being the largest voting block at about 37.5% because they don’t see how they fit into electoral campaigns and policies.
She hopes the town halls will produce commitments and actual action from politicians involved.
The meeting begins at 5pm with presentations from politicians and speakers, and an open Q & A to follow, all of this will be held digitally through ZOOM.
