Saskatoon’s City Administration says taxpayers were over billed in their 2020 property taxes related to the library portion of the taxes, so tax credits and/or refunds will be issued to property owners.
For the average assessed home, it comes out to about $2 a year.
In total, there was an over billing of $270,914.
Chief Financial Officer, Kerry Tarasoff explains that the 2020 Saskatoon Public Library tax rate included the combined budgets for the property levy and the supplemental property levy, but only the property levy was to be billed.
Tarasoff says City Administration has taken steps to improve the tax billing process to make sure this doesn’t happen again.
