Fire at Fast Food Restaurant
The Saskatoon Fire Department received a 9-1-1 call from an employee at the McDonald’s on 51st Street at 12:13 Monday morning. A commercial kitchen appliance was on fire. Everyone in the building was evacuating as fire crews arrived on scene about 4 minutes later. The employees had tried to put the fire out but weren’t successful. Firefighters used a dry chemical fire extinguisher and the building’s sprinkler system to put out the fire. The situation was under control within a half hour and fire crews made sure that there was no extension of the fire into the building’s roof. The cause of the fire is an accidental grease fire originating from inside of a commercial deep fryer. The Fire Investigator estimates damage at $10,000.

House Fire in Silverwood Heights
The Saskatoon Fire Department arrived to a home early Sunday afternoon in less than 4 minutes after multiple 911 calls about a home in the 100 block of Stechishin Crescent on fire. The Fire Department reports that emergency crews could see smoke coming from the home. Everybody in the home had evacuated and was uninjured. The fire was in the basement and about 40 minutes after arriving, it was considered to be under control, with no extension beyond the basement. The fire investigator is working on the cause and origin of the fire and the damage estimate is around $150-thousand.

Fire at Stonebridge Condominium
When fire crews arrived at a Stonebridge condominium shortly before 1 on Monday afternoon they saw water flowing and smoke exiting the building. The call came in at 12:48 p.m. from the 100 block of Willis Crescent from an alarm company that a monitored fire alarm was going off. Fire officials say the building’s sprinkler system suppressed a fire in the kitchen of one of the units.
A cat was located and removed by firefighters while everyone else got out on their own steam. The fire is considered accidental and started in the kitchen with the fire investigator estimating damage at approximately $100,000.
Report of Vehicle Fire
The Saskatoon Fire Department was able to use their on-board water supply to put out two small fires after getting a call about a vehicle on fire in the 400 block of Avenue U South. The call came in at 4:05 a.m. on Sunday morning. The two fires were outside the vehicle and quickly put out. Fire officials say the fire is incendiary, or arson and damage is estimated at $2,500.
