It wasn’t that long ago that Phase 1 of the Reopen Saskatchewan Plan began in May and now, as of today (Mon), we are in the second part of Phase 4.
That means along with child and youth day camps, outdoor pools and spray parks, and recreational outdoor sports and activities which began in Phase 4.1, the province is now allowing museums, galleries, movie theatres and live theatres to open their doors.
Physical distancing and hygiene protocols remain in place.
Last week, Premier Scott Moe announced a few tweaks to Phase 4 which meant that campgrounds could book to 100 per cent capacity as of last Friday and last Tuesday, contact sports were allowed along with their spectators.
Part of Saskatchewan’s 4.2 re-opening includes libraries, but the Saskatoon Public Library will be sticking to a more gradual approach.
That according to SPL CEO Carol Cooley says they are currently in stage 2 of a 5 stage plan to re-open libraries in the city. Currently holds for pick-up service are being taken with book returns also open. In stage 3, Cooley explains they hope to be able to offer some delivery services to some homes, they will be installing plexi-glass and allowing limited access to library facilities at that time.
Stage 4 will see increased access to library facilities, with library stacks being opened for browsing. Cooley says the date for that will depend on the government lifting those restrictions, with the time frame currently unknown.
Stage 5 Cooley says will be a fully restored library, back to pre-pandemic levels.
Cooley says 21,000 holds have been made since they were able to do so, and library staff are happy to be back serving the public and ready to progress through the stages when possible.
