As part of its Methane Action Plan, the Saskatchewan government is investing $400-thousand to support field-testing research on methane emission reduction technologies.
A news release from the province says the research will be conducted by the Saskatchewan Research Council. Oil and gas producers are also providing funding for the project.
Energy and Resources Minister Bronwyn Eyre says the oil and gas sector has significantly improved gas conservation rates and reduced methane emissions, so it makes sense to continue to work together.
The goal is to reduce emissions from Saskatchewan’s upstream oil and gas industry by 40 to 45 per cent by 2025.
