Friday is the final day of the 4th session of the 28th legislature, after shutting down due to COVID-19 in mid-March. The revised version of the session with fewer MLAs in the Legislature building for physical distancing measures began again on June 15th when the budget was presented.
On the final day of the spring session the Premier acknowledged and thanked MLAs would would be stepping down and won’t be running in the next election. Scot Moe says, “On behalf of the entire province, I want to thank my departing colleagues for their sacrifice and commitment as we worked together to build a better Saskatchewan.”
Eleven MLAs have announced stepping down, with 7 from the Saskatchewan Party and 4 from the Opposition NDP. All of whom have served at least 2 terms in the legislature. The provincial election is October 26th.
Leaving on the government side are: Dan D’Autremont (representing Cannington), Nancy Heppner (Martensville-Warman) Greg Brkich (Arm River), Glen Hart (Last Mountain-Touchwood), Herb Cox (The Battlefords), Larry Doke (Cutknife-Turtleford) and Warren Michelson (Moose Jaw North).
NDP side: Warren McCall (Regina Elphinstone-Centre), David Forbes (Saskatoon Centre), Danielle Chartier (Saskatoon Riversdale) and Cathy Sproule (Saskatoon Nutuna)
