Cries of “Play Ball” will be heard on softball diamonds throughout the Gordie Howe Sports Complex Monday night for the first time in 2020.
The Saskatoon Amateur Softball Association will start its 54th season of play with 16 of 27 teams in action. The 27 teams are split into five divisions…two women’s and three men’s…with all teams slated to play 20 games over the next two months.
Some parts of the game will look a little different, such as balls and strikes being called by umpires standing behind the pitcher and catchers positioned further back from home plate than normal, and there’ll be a whole lot of sanitizing going on when it comes to the balls and bats being used. Fans being encouraged to attend games, so long as they maintain physical distancing.
Eight diamonds will be in use Monday at the Gordie Howe Sports Complex…at either Bob Van Impe Stadium, Joe Gallagher Field or the Glenn Reeve diamonds.
