The Water Security Agency says there is a risk of localized flooding today for the Churchill River system. Peak flows are expected in the Beauval area in early July and at Lac Ile-a-la-Crosse in mid-July.
These peak flows are expected to exceed 2017 levels and in fact may approach record levels seen in 1974. Lake levels are going to continue to rise at Lac La Ronge in the next few weeks but flooding isn’t expected.
Flows into Reindeer Lake are at record high and the lake is at Full Supply Level. High flows, in turn, from Whitesand Dam combined with flows on the Churchill River will result in the highest flows on record at Island Falls and Sandy Bay exceeding the 2300m3/s that residents saw in 2005.
Any landowners near the Beaver River need to beware of the potential impact on property and because of all this water moving through various rivers and lakes, flows are well above normal at all locations east of Peter Pond Lake. They are expected to stay above normal well into winter.
