Almost 4 months after the gates closed at the Saskatoon’s Zoo, it’s open again with a few changes to keep everyone safe. The Forestry Farm Park remained open during the restrictions from the pandemic, but the zoo had to close its gates. Zoo Manager Jeff Mitchell urges everyone to book ahead to reserve an arrival time. That way, it keeps people from gathering at the gates. If you don’t book ahead, there are also walk-in time slots set aside. Mitchell explains that once you’re in, you can stay as long as you like.
The buildings aren’t open, or the train, but the playground is and so is the concession. There is a one-way walking path to traverse through the zoo while maintaining your physical distancing, and because of the time of year, you may see some babies along the way. Mitchell says there were 4 mouflon sheep which are an endangered species, 2 pronghorn, 2 caribou, and 2 bighorn sheep born this year.
The animal ambassadors aren’t walking the grounds because it may cause people to gather, but there is an area set aside, with physical distancing measures in place, for wildlife education and conservation.
