The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is calling the announcement of a four billion dollar irrigation plan announced by the provincial government earlier this month a risky proposition.
Federation spokesperson Todd McKay is hoping for the good of the province that the project accomplishes what the government wants it to, but he believes the private sector should be involved. He says hopefully everything turns out great.
“We’ve also seen things like the Global Transportation Hub go sideways, SPUDCO go sideways.”
The province says the generational project at Lake Diefenbaker could create up to $80 billion in economic benefits with around 2,500 jobs being created.
The CTF wonders if the amount of money being spent on the project is the right thing to do when they are already steep in debt due to COVID-19. (CKRM)
