Just a few days after the provincial government warned Saskatchewan residents to be “Bear Aware”, Stanley Mission RCMP got a call that a black bear had gone into a home in Stanley Mission. The bear gained access around 9:30 p.m. Sunday night by pushing out a portable air conditioner.
When RCMP arrived the bear had already left the house and ran into the woods. Meanwhile one of the people who live in the home was taken to the medical clinic after suffering injuries from getting away from the bear.
Ministry of Environment Conservation Officers have set up a bear trap near where the bear was last seen. Officials are warning residents to be careful and contact a conservation officer or police if they see any bear activity in or close to town.
The advice from the Province is to store garbage in a secure building or but a bear-resistant container. Avoid leaving pet food accessible to wildlife. Only use bird feeders in the winter when bears are hibernating. And properly clean and store BBQ grills after each use.
