Saskatoon
The 5.88 million dollars that the province has set aside for policing initiatives in Saskatoon is an increase of $70,000 from last year. $498 million of that, provided through the Municipal Police Grants program, is for 43 existing Saskatoon Police Service positions in 2020-21. Saskatchewan Government Insurance is also providing $900,000 for five positions as part of the Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan initiative. The funding for Saskatoon will include the continuation of the Police and Crisis Team, or PACT, which is made up of police officers and mental health workers. The funding will contribute to the Integrated Crime Reduction Team which gathers intelligence on street gangs and gang associates as well as for ICE, the Internet Child Exploitation Unit.
Regina
Regina will benefit from $4.95 million in Municipal Police Grants for 40 Regina Police Service positions in 2020-2021. This is an increase of $90,000 from last year. The funding is essentially split along the same lines as Saskatoon going towards their PACT, the Regina Police and Crisis Team; .the Integrated Crime Reduction teams and the Internet Child Exploitation Unit. Saskatchewan Government Insurance will provide $900,000 to Regina as well for five positions as part of the Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan Initiative.
Moose Jaw
The province has announced $800 thousand for policing initiatives in Moose Jaw. $440 thousand will be for four police positions. It’s an increase from $110 thousand last year which will put one addition officer in the Moose Jaw Police and Crisis Team. $360 thousand will provide two positions as part of the Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan initiative, which works to improve highway safety.
Yorkton
Yorkton is befitting from $330 thousand in additional funding. The Ministry of Corrections and Policing is providing the money for three exiting Yorkton RCMP positions.
