The Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation says results from a national survey show this province’s educators are not confident in the COVID-19 return to school plan. The survey was conducted by the Canadian Teacher’s Federation in regards to precautions being taken to ensure a safe return to school in the fall.
STF President Patrick Maze says the teachers are very worried about the health risks and impact on student learning. The top three concerns identified are the mental health and well-being of students and staff, equity supports for teaching and learning and access to technology.
And to address those concerns, the STF has outline four priorities which include clear consistent specific guidelines and communication about resuming classes as well as safety protocols from both the provincial government and school divisions. Adequate supports for students with intensive needs. Physical, mental and emotional supports for all students and confidence that schools are safe places for teaching and learning which includes appropriate cleaning and social distancing protocols are in place.
